Topic: C.E8 Culturally Responsive Practices in Early Childhood Education
Synopsis: In light of increasing globalisation, teachers are seeing more and more diversity within their classrooms. The identities and backgrounds of children are increasingly varied; educators are hence faced with the challenge of meeting the needs of all these children so that they are all given equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of their cultural, religious or socio-economic backgrounds.
Apart from that, educators also aim to raise children to become culturally-sensitive individuals who are able to thrive within a pluralistic society. Hence, educators themselves need to be culturally responsive to develop this characteristic in children.
Through this presentation, participants can expect to understand:
(1) The injustices present in classroom
(2) The 4 goals of anti-bias approach in pedagogy
(3) How to be culturally responsive in teaching
(4) How to evoke discussions of diversity with children
(5) Ways to be inclusive towards families.
