Founder and Managing Director

Centre for Applied Practice in Education (SG/HK) Pte Ltd

I am the Founder and Managing Director of the Centre for Applied Practice in Education (or CAPE, for short) in both Singapore and Hong Kong. In India, I am the founding Director of Drs Wasker & Lai Medical and Mental Health Practices as well as Mountain Rose Eco-Solutions, a start-up focused on developing eco-friendly sources of nutritionally dense foods for women and children.

For 21 years prior to these ventures, I founded and ran the Wee Care Group Singapore, an organisation that provided both early childhood and early intervention programmes including full inclusion for children with additional learning needs. Wee Care was one of the first centres in Singapore to not only provide early intervention services in a mainstream setting, but also pioneered and established a novel infant stimulation programme (The Baby Buddy Network) and programmes based on constructivist play-based learning paradigms. I am a former Humanities scholar (Public Service Commission, Singapore) and a registered Kindergarten Principal (with ECDA Singapore).

My Doctor of Education (EdD)(Dual Award) degree was awarded by UCL's Institute of Education (ranked No. 1 in the world for ten years in a row) and NTU Singapore's National Institute of Education. I continue to enjoy reading and researching topics related to social justice, power and politics in education, child and language development, applied behaviour analysis and a Theory of Mind. My newest pro-bono project at Kukoh+ (Yong-en Care Centre) involves the implementation of a Reggio-inspired pedagogy for some of the poorest young children in Singapore. I have taught higher education courses at Wheelock College Singapore, the Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education HK and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

I have also moderated exams and/or developed course materials for Ngee Ann Polytechnic Singapore and the National Institute of Early Childhood Singapore (NIEC). I hold an International Behaviour Analyst (IBA) certification, specifically for the alleviation of learning and behavioural issues in children on the Autism Spectrum. I am at the same time, a Certified Birkman Professional (BCP). I use the Birkman Method to increase social-emotional insights in individuals, couples, families and work teams.

My greatest joy is spending time with my family, and yes, I am Peranakan - of Chinese, Indonesian and Indian descent :)
